Functional neurology
A neutral summary of mechanisms in functional neurology, with citations. Descriptions cover why methods are studied — not how individual clinics sequence treatment.
Brain plasticity
Neuronal plasticity — activity-dependent synaptic change — is the founding principle of functional neurology. Repetitive sensory stimulation has been shown to alter cortical representation in animal models [K: PMID 2427748], and environmental enrichment is linked to increased BDNF expression [K: PMID 10619412].
Post-concussion and brain fog
Fatigue and cognitive intolerance are common after concussion. The literature describes dysautonomia and vestibular dysfunction as frequent subacute findings [K: PMID 27618604]. Rehabilitation should be individually documented; this portal does not publish individual protocols.
Chronic pain and central sensitisation
Central sensitisation denotes amplified response to normal stimuli. Gate-control mechanisms and segmental inhibition are well described [K: PMID 4135530]. Photobiomodulation is studied as one component of multimodal pain care; the evidence status is reviewed under Evidence.
